Well this is my very first blog and whilst it seems a challenge to undertake, I am so compelled to write&talk about Midnight Tango.
Around six months ago I joined twitter, stumbling my way around following Claudia due to 'It Takes Two' and then found Flavia, I remember tweeting....If Flavia & Vincent would be on the SCD tour in the new year? Flavia kindly responded unfortunately not, we’re doing Midnight Tango. My reply was ''..Initially sad but what a great idea and looking forward to seeing the show.''
So moving on six months, we’re at the present day…..
Taking our theatre seats, 4 rows from the front, I couldn’t have wanted for a better seat. You are instantly intrigued with the stage set, the bar and the band area. Immediately when the show starts and the characters take to the stage, you are drawn into the bar and feel that you’re actually sitting at a table inside the bar.
You instantly feel apart of the show!
I say this because sometimes you can see a show and feel through-out you’re just an audience member.. However with MT you lose yourself instantly into the dances; they are mesmerising, intimate and compelling to watch.
From the moment when the band & dancers take to the stage in their own unique way, you are immediately involved with them.
Right now on my blog, I’m conscious of giving too much away, because when you see the show for the first time – I want it to be as compelling and wonderful as it was for me. The Solo and Couple routines are breathtaking and it's something you should discover and enjoy yourself. I am biting my lip slightly as I want to talk about every single routine but there’s no way I would wish to alter anyone’s first impressions of MT.
What I can say and will say is - the music and singing is sublime too, the band are amazing which perfectly fits the dancing feast before your eyes.
Speaking of the other dancing couples, they are so talented. You can look to each person and their face and passion is shining through with their movements... They draw you into the dancing and the bar, effortlessly. The timing is amazing and when they are not dancing, they work their way around the storyline & stage effortlessly
You will simply love the comedy element and storylines that are playing out before your eyes. The bar owners could have their own tv show!
Thoughts on Flavia & Vincent now.
When Flavia comes into the bar, everyone’s eyes are focused on her, cheering and applauding. Vincent too, he gets cheers from the audience and especially the ladies on the front rows. Not surprising with his charm and amazing eyebrow control ;-)
Flavia’s outfits are stunning, beautiful….well beyond any words that I can type here. They suit the dances and storyline so well. Vincent too – he scrubs up well doesn’t he.
When V&F are in hold – you are just lost for words! I can honestly say, I wasn't even conscious that I was breathing because I was so enthralled with their dancing.
The length of the show, for the dancers is enough I’m sure. They give everything to their performance which goes some way of how Flavia & Vincent make you feel. I personally could sit there and watch them forever because the show goes by in a flash. I will finish off by saying this; this is the best show you will see this year. Flavia and Vincent are breathtaking, I just love every moment watching them dance – I extend that to the other dancers also.
Finally, I hope V&F get to do this again and again and again. Be that, another national tour or the West End, or Broadway! You can see it’s their passion and life-calling to share their wonderful talent/natural ability with us.
Personally - Midnight Tango was my dancing show highlight so far and I will hold the memories of meeting Flavia too.. She’s lovely and kind beyond words (something that everyone already knows). So the last thing for me to say is *** I wish Flavia, Vincent and the entire show, all the very best for the future – because they gave me… one amazing evening of dance memories. *** Jon_Tango xx
